Connor: Connor is the main character. We followed him as he was adopted into a new family, unravelled a conspiracy and false hate-crime charges, fell in love with a merman, and discovered that he was part of a genetic experiment that altered his DNA.

Adonis: Connor’s larger-than-life mer-boyfriend. His tail is iridescent and, as he insists—massive. He loves Connor, tolerates Laurence, and has a special hate in his heart for Trevor. Much about him is still a mystery.

Laurence: Connor’s younger stepbrother. He’s bright, buoyant and loves fiercely. He’s an adept cook, loves drawing, and will try anything new if he sees someone he considers ‘cool’ doing it first.

Trevor: Connor’s stepfather. A kind, patient man with a lot of love for his sons.

Nick: The eldest in the family; Nick is abrasive and sharp, and will never choose to smooth things over for social harmony if he sees something he thinks is wrong.

Sam: Connor’s first (and ex) boyfriend. A local fisherman’s son who was heartbroken by Connor when he was sixteen.

Mary: Sam’s fiery cousin: she’d go to war for Sam, and is always ready for a fight.

Austin: Connor’s recent ex-boyfriend. He was a victim of the same genetic experimentation as Connor, though to greater ‘success’. He’s Cessair’s adopted son, kept on a tight leash his entire life.

Edith: Connor’s biological mom.

Ben: Connor’s biological dad, and a researcher for Cessair. He took part in the merfolk research and the genetic tampering in regards to Connor and Austin.

Arthur: Ben’s fellow researcher. 

Rick: One of two Americans who guarded Cessair’s underwater lab.

 
Liam: The second American guard. He conspired with Austin to help the teenager escape from Cessair: at the end of the book, he left Connor behind on a sinking ship to get Austin to safety.

Cessair: The billionaire egomaniac who funded the research and genetic manipulations towards the lofty goal of living forever.

Brief Mentions:

Peter: The classmate Connor supposedly ‘assaulted’—he tells the truth in the end and helps bring the conspiracy to light.

Sally: The owner of the local bar, who considers Connor her son.

Marty: The owner of the local bookstore. Likewise, he considers Connor family.

Hannah: Laurence and Nick’s biological mom, Trevor’s deceased wife. She’s mentioned briefly by Trevor.
